RICHARDSON, Texas – Police arrested the mother of the 3-year-old adopted girl who was found dead in suburban Dallas storm drain last month.

Sini Mathews is being charged with abandoning or endangering a child, according to the Richardson Police Department. Her husband, Wesley Mathews, was arrested on the same charges last month in relation to Sherin Mathews' disappearance and death.

Sherin was reported missing from the couple's Richardson home on Oct. 7. Police say Wesley Mathews ordered his daughter to stand next to a tree behind the fence at their home at around 3 a.m. on Oct. 7 as punishment for not drinking her milk.

The girl's body was found two weeks later in a culvert. Authorities said her father later changed his story and said she choked to death on milk and that he got rid of her body in the storm drain.

The investigation into the girl's death is ongoing.
