SUTHERLAND SPRINGS, Texas --After recent tragedies, such as Sutherland Springs, people are ready to step in and help. But with so many ways to give, how do you tell which ones are safe?

Our John Garcia spoke with experts and shows us how to make sure your money goes to the people who need it the most.

The Better Business Bureau says after tragic events - they see an increase of people impersonating charities. Their goal is to steal your money and private information. Scammers are deceiving donors through social media, email, phone calls, even in-person.

With crowdfunding websites being popular for fundraising, fraud can run high.

“So, we have to be careful because, there is limited vetting that happens through these websites. So, there’s no, again hundred percent guarantee that the person creating this profile is the person that needs the help," said Miguel Segura, with the Better Business Bureau.

The First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs has official donation links on it’s Facebook page and website. The Wilson County Sherriff’s Office is working with District Attorney’s Office and Texas Ranger Task Force to find those responsible for setting up fraudulent fundraisers.
