AUSTIN, Texas – The Austin Police Department found multiple trash bags full of K2 thanks to an anonymous tip.

Authorities seized more than 74 kilos of the synthetic drug during a traffic stop. In total, authorities confiscated 222,960 individual doses of K2 with a street value of $1,114,800.

Four suspects were taken into custody following the traffic stop. Authorities believe that they were transporting the K2 from Houston to Austin based on information received in the tip.

The drug bust was part of an effort between APD, the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Houston Police Department.

Because the drug is cheap, usage in Austin has been concentrated among the homeless population, particularly in downtown.

Eliminating K2 from Austin streets have been a focus of city leaders within the past year with resources being used to better patrol downtown areas.
