TRAVIS COUNTY, Texas -- Long awaited improvements could be coming to Travis County if voters give the green light Tuesday.

Almost $185 million in projects are planned for different parts of the county, including $2.1 million for a sidewalk for people who live at the Community First Village near the Expo Center. The village opened two years ago to help end homelessness. However, the village's remote location forces many residents to walk down the shoulder of a county road.

"Improving those roads to make sure that people can not only be mobile but safe is really important," said Mike Clark-Madison of Travis Forward PAC.

The bond package would also pay $11.9 million for a road extension for the Austin's Colony neighborhood. Richard Franklin is Vice President for one of the neighborhood's homeowners associations.

"I don't know if you remember five years ago when we took the buses off the road to the elementary school," he said. "We were deemed the worst traffic in Travis County.  It was taking at least an hour to get to the main road--(FM) 969. If there is an accident on 969, you are literally landlocked."

While Proposition A focuses on roads, sidewalks and storm water infrastructure, Proposition B would allow the county to purchase property for the development of future county parks. That includes $23.6 million for the creation of Bee Creek Sports Complex.

"The taxpayers out there have been paying for parks and improvements all over the rest of the county for a long time," Clark-Madison said. "They are really focused on making sure they get this project done."

If both propositions pass, Clark-Madison said it will cost the owner of a $300,000 home an additional $2 a month. Travis County still has an additional $1.1 billion in projects on its needs list.

Fewer than five percent of registered voters cast ballots early, according to the Travis County Clerk. Early voting ends Friday, the General Election is Tuesday.
