SAN MARCOS, Texas -- This Halloween weekend marks one year since Texas State University freshman Jordin Taylor was killed in a tragic party bus accident.

"[The] Whole school came together and supported this one girl," said Texas State student Emma Motley.

Taylor and her sorority sisters took a Skyline party bus to a fraternity party near Cool Rivers Road in Martindale. A mechanical issue forced the party-goers to switch busses before they headed home.

The next day, Taylor's body was found under the broken bus out. Police say they believe Taylor was struck by the bus and dragged for up to 500 feet.

A year later, Texas State students are still trying to come to terms with Taylor's death.

"It was just a really, really sad time. It was really devastating and you would never expect that and you would never realize that would happen somewhere so close to you and so close to home. Especially with people she was friends with, people close to you, so it was hard," said Texas State student Lauren Richards.

While Taylor's death is hard to fathom, Richards said the tragedy has underlined just how important it is to look out for your friends.

"Just being aware and cautious at all times now. Taking everything more serious than we did at first," said Richards.

Taylor's death was deemed an accident by authorities. Spectrum News reached out to Skyline Party Busses, but the company had no comment. Joey Taylor, the victim’s father, has sued the company over her death.
