AUSTIN, Texas -- The state insect got a lot of love at the Zilker Botanical Garden yesterday.

People learned more about the monarch butterfly for Monarch Appreciation Day. Aside from bringing attention to the butterflies, the event also brings awareness to all pollinators as their numbers continue to decline.

"Trying to bring awareness to pollinators, Monarchs in particular are having some habit issues as well as some other issues, and their population is declining. A lot of native bees, also have issues like that as well. One out of every three bites of food we eat is dependent on a pollinator, so they're pretty important,” said Matt Morris, Zilker Botanical Garden.

Guests also learned how to help pollinators from their homes.
