SAN ANTONIO -- The first phase of expanding the San Antonio Botanical Garden is complete.

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held to commemorate the grand opening Saturday.

The first phase includes six new areas such as a discovery center and culinary garden. The goal of the $22 million project is to enhance hands-on education.

A second phase will be revealed next March adding a Family Adventure Garden. When complete, the Botanical Garden will be eight acres larger than the park's existing 38 acre footprint.
