SAN ANTONIO --- There’s a new bike-sharing program launching this weekend, and what better a place to make its debut than at Síclovía.

They may look like regular bikes, but the new wheels were built to accommodate special needs riders.

“This is pure recreation. This is pure fun,“ said development director Meredith Michelson with Believe It Foundation.

After more than a year in the making, the Believe It Foundation is rolling out its newest inclusion program called Believe it Bikes.

“That might spark something, the bike riding experience, for them to feel the encouragement and the need to do it and the confidence to go forward,” said Andrew McAllister founder of Believe It Foundation.

Through a B-Cycle partnership, bikes with wheelchair attachments will be available at two stations and two Bike World shops will carry special trikes.

“It can really just change kid’s lives, and it can make them think that there are more possibilities for them than they thought they had,” said Angel Whitley with San Antonio B-Cycle.

For McAllister, it's about making sure all kids have the chance to make a memory.

“When I was little, I used to ride every morning for a period of time with my father. And so, it was really neat for me to experience that with him, but also experience the joy of having my legs move in ways that they had not moved before, and being able to peddle, and just to be able to feel the freedom that I could do something physically and do it with him. And, really see the smile on his face,” he said.

The adaptive bikes will make their debut Sunday. You can find the bicycles along the Síclovía route at Maverick Park.
