FAYETTEVILLE -- It was a somber day in the Sandhills, as the Fayetteville and Fort Bragg communities mourn the loss of a second fallen soldier.

Friends and family gathered outside the Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home in Fayetteville to say their final goodbyes to Staff Sgt. Jeremiah Johnson.

Staff Sgt. Johnson was killed in an ambush attack by ISIS fighters in Niger earlier this month, along with three other Fort Bragg soldiers.

People came out to honor, and remember his life of service.

He was one of four Fort Bragg soldiers killed in Niger earlier this month during an ambush attack by ISIS fighters.

"I just wish people in this community realized how much of a sacrifice it is. Not just to our heroes, but to their families at home too. It doesn't matter if they come home or not, it's still a sacrifice," said Dutch Macomber, Patriot Guard Riders.

Staff Sgt. Johnson, 39, joined the Army in 2007.

He was with the 3rd Special Forces group as a chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear specialist.

The other three soldiers killed in that ambush by ISIS fighters include Staff Sgt. Bryan Black, who was laid to rest on Wednesday in Fayetteville, Sgt. La David Johnson, and Staff Sgt. Dustin Wright.

Defense officials say the fallen were part of a 12-member U.S. team helping local forces in Niger combat terrorists.

Staff Sgt. Johnson will soon be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington D.C.
