A public school teacher in Queens is charged with having sexually explicit conversations with a 14-year-old girl.

35-year old Michael Cognato allegedly exchanged lewd photos and videos with a former student after she graduated from I-S 93 in Ridgewood.

Prosecutors say the exchange began when Cognato tutored the 8th grader over the summer, then began making sexual advances over snapchat and Facebook.

The victim's mother then alerted police.

Teachers at the school were shocked to hear of the charges against their co-worker.

"Our job as teachers and youth workers and after school, your job should be to make sure the kid has a bright future," said after school teacher Marcus Deleon. "And you sexting a child, that's not putting the right thing in their head."

"Somebody at that age and the man at the age he is, it's kinda sad and a litle sick if you think about it," said student Kianna Lomourt. "But I just, it's something I hope never happens again."

Cognato is charged with endangering the welfare of a child along with a slew of child pornography charges.

He's facing 15 years in prison.
