AUSTIN, Texas — After withstanding a disaster of their own, local hot spot Franklin Barbecue is stepping up to help Texans recover from Harvey.

While the tropical storm was over our area nearly one month ago, a fire broke out in Franklin's smokehouse, causing extensive damage.

It forced the restaurant to close its doors but it's not stopping them from stepping up to help victims in some of Harvey's hardest-hit areas.

They sold about 800 tickets over the two-weekend event which wrapped up Sunday.

"Harvey destroyed so much stuff.  There's so many people out there that still need a lot of help, need to rebuild. You know, there's far worse things than our dinky little restaurant that caught on fire, so it seemed like a no-brainer. Why wouldn't we cook and raise money?,” said owner Aaron Franklin.

Franklin says he hopes to have the restaurant partially open again by the end of October and back to 100 percent by the end of November.
