SAN ANTONIO — U.S. Rep. Joaquin Castro, D-Texas, says he has no plans to run for Texas governor.
That's despite the state's Democratic Party chairman insisting last week that Castro was still considering it.
Castro said Tuesday that his plan is to run for re-election. He laughed when asked if he would decisively rule out a gubernatorial run.
Castro also didn't answer when reporters asked who might be encouraging him to run for governor.
At this time, there's no viable Democrat to challenge Gov. Greg Abbott.
The Democrats have not won a statewide office in Texas since 1994.
