AUSTIN, Texas - The city has unveiled its second draft of CodeNEXT.

This draft comes after thousands of comments were made on the first version of Austin's new zoning and land use plan.

One of the biggest changes in the new draft of the code rewrite is the removal of transect zones, which focus on a building's form rather than its use. Those zones have been changed to various types of residential areas.

"This draft is not in a place where I can support it, but it is in a place where I can continue to work on it and feel good that we are headed in a good direction," said Mayor Steve Adler.

Interim City Manager Elaine Hart says they expect to release the third and final draft at the end of November.

Adler says they hope to finish and vote on CodeNEXT by early next year.
