AUSTIN, Texas — Lake Austin has become the third Central Texas reservoir to test positive for zebra mussels in recent months.

Researchers have found both larvae and adult mussels throughout the area, but they don't know if it's the result of downstream spread from Lake Travis, or an infested boat.

Officials wanted to stress that Lake Austin tested positive, but is not infested.

The discovery comes less than two months after the invasive species was found in Lake Travis.

To help prevent the spread, boaters are required to properly clean, drain and dry their watercraft before leaving or approaching a body of fresh water.
