AUSTIN, Texas — It's been nearly five months since a truck crashed into a church bus and killed 13 senior citizens in Uvalde County.

Today, Jessica Melott, daughter of victim Rhonda Jo Allen, will be speaking about the dangers of impaired driving.

AAA is hosting the "Three D's of Impaired Driving: Drunk, Drugged, Drowsy" summit at the Palmer Events Center all day.

According to a recent AAA survey, fatal crashes involving drivers who recently used marijuana doubled in states where marijuana was legalized. Recreational marijuana, is not yet legal in Texas, but law enforcement statewide report an increase in drugged driving arrests and crashes.

At the summit, experts will discuss new challenges of detecting drugged drivers, dangers of powdered alcohol and problems Texas has faced with repeat DWI offenders.

The special summit is hosted by AAA, Texas Department of Public Safety, Law Enforcement Officers, Criminal Justice Professionals and Family Members who’ve lost loved ones to drugged/impaired driving.

The event starts at 10 a.m. and goes to 3 p.m.
