AUSTIN, Texas -- America's oldest living veteran will live on a street bearing his name, even though it's for just a day.
Richard Overton turns 111-years-old next month.
The World War Two veteran has lived on Hamilton Avenue for 70 years. On May 11, Hamilton will be temporarily renamed Richard Overton Avenue.
"He's a special man. He is an icon in our community, and I am just so grateful that we are able to honor him in so many ways," said Ora Houston, Austin City Council District 1.
Overton's family created a GoFundMe account after Christmas to help cover the cost of in-home care that his V-A benefits won't. So far, more than 3,600 people have given more than $160,000.
