LOCKHART, Texas -- Police said they arrested a Lockhart High School teacher and charged her with having an improper relationship with a student.

Sarah Fowlkes has worked for the Lockhart Independent School District since October 2014. She taught anatomy, physiology and environmental science at the high school, according to her now-disabled website with Lockhart ISD.

On March 10, school officials received a concerning report, and they immediately notified police and Child Protective Services.

Superintendent Susan Bohn emailed parents Monday to tell them Fowlkes had been arrested and immediately suspended.

Bohn said the district does not tolerate any improper communication or contact between a teacher and a student. Lockhart ISD is also conducting its own investigation.

Students and parents with information are asked to contact the Lockhart Police Department at 512-398-4401.
