AUSTIN, Texas -- The 2016 Globey Awards honored kids from throughout the US for computer and game design.

Nearly 50 finalists gathered at the State Capitol for the awards ceremony.

The students on hand are the best of the best, beating out close to 300 regional finalists.

They won for coming up with their own innovations in computer games and coding.

The winners were selected by a panel of professional game designers and computer scientists.

"I learned that anybody can do this and that it's not very hard and that when you put your mind in it that it'll come through very well,” said Ahmed Ashittu from Baylor College of Medicine Academy at Ryan.

The awards are sponsored by Globaloria, an educational program that encourages kids to change the world through computer science.
