AUSTIN, Texas — The community got a sneak peek of the new affordable housing being built on South Lamar Boulevard.

Foundation Communities hosted a tour of Bluebonnet Studios on Tuesday.

The complex will include 107 efficiency apartments designed for singles.

The location will give residents easy access to buses, Zilker Park and downtown and will be home to people who may work in the area, but can't afford to live there.

"We'll have some apartments for veterans, ah a handful for musicians, some for folks who have been homeless. It's really designed for folks that are on a limited income, and in many cases people that are just priced out of Austin, and just can't afford to live here anymore,” said Walter Moreau of Foundation Communities.

Bluebonnet Studios residents will pay about $450 a month.

They haven't begun taking applications, but hundreds have already shown interest.
