AUSTIN--It was a chance to experience a hair-raising thrill all in the name of raising money for kids who need it most.

Make-A-Wish hosted its annual Over The Edge rappelling fundraiser this weekend. Two-hundred people signed up for the event, with participants required to raise at least $1,500 in donations each.

Organizers say rappellers must overcome fears and obstacles, just like Make-A-Wish children do every day.

"You're being taken care of, you're being helped and all of a sudden you actually trust these people enough to lean back over 37 floors of nothingness and this is where you experience the strength it takes for our kids to get through their medical experience,” said Kathrin Brewer, Make-A-Wish Central and South Texas President and CEO.

According to the Over the Edge website, the event raised $500,000.
