Alex Stockwell joined the Time Warner Cable News team in September 2014.
She's a lifelong Texan, graduating from New Braunfels High School -- home of the Unicorns -- and receiving a degree in Broadcast Journalism at the University of Texas at Austin in 2013.
While on the Forty Acres, Alex worked at Texas Student TV, UT's student-run television station, eventually serving as sports director. She was also among the first group of interns selected by ESPN to work at Longhorn Network and later became a production assistant for their high school football show.
When Alex isn't reporting, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends and loves taking advantage of all there is to do in Austin.
Here are some other things you might not know about Alex:
- I am a diehard San Antonio Spurs fan -- I was born in San Antonio and grew up loving basketball. It's one of my favorite sports to watch, and I played when I was in 4th grade up until high school (for the mighty New Braunfels Unicorns)
- I studied journalism at UT Austin and worked for the student-run TV station. One of my first big interviews was Michael Phelps when I was a sophomore.
- I did radio commercials when I was a little kid. I would do voice over work at the radio station in New Braunfels any time a child’s voice was needed.
- I'm a huge Disney nerd. I’ve been to Disney World seven times and also went on a Disney cruise to the Bahamas. Oh, and Disney Paris during a family trip to Europe.
- One of my lifelong dreams is to be on "Wheel of Fortune." My parents claim that I taught myself to read from watching the show when I was little.
- I am terribly afraid of spiders -- I once jumped out of a moving car when I was filming a ride-along interview because a giant spider crawled across the dashboard (luckily the car was only going about 10 mph).
- According to a family tree that my aunt put together, I am a distant relative of former U.S. President William H. Taft. It's rumored that he once got stuck in the White House bath tub, but some say he had an extra-large tub to accommodate his size. Either way, we're pretty proud.
- I have a cat named Maggie that I adopted from a shelter when I was 13 years old. I also had a pet chicken when I was younger, she was domesticated and behaved more like a dog than a chicken -- she would even come to you when you'd call her name.
- My favorite movies include "Remember the Titans," "My Big Fat Greek Wedding," "Inception," "Love Actually," all of the "Harry Potter" films, and of course, just about any Disney movie.
- Another dream of mine is to travel to every continent -- even Antarctica -- although I wouldn't stay there too long.
