Austin leaders say they have some of the best minds focused on solving the region’s traffic problems. The University of Texas says it can help, too.

This Tuesday, the Urban Transportation Committee will consider a partnership between the City of Austin and the UT Center for Transportation Research. This would be on top of partnerships already created with the Rocky Mountain Institute and a few other groups of transportation experts.

UT wants a half-million dollars a year for the partnership, which would last five years. The university says it can give the city access to the latest best practices in transportation and a variety of experts.

The Commission can only give a recommendation, which will be taken up by elected leaders in February.
