Thousands of art connoisseurs hit the streets this weekend for the annual Art City Austin event—but it's not just for art lovers.

Now in its 65th year, Art City Austin started in 1950. Back then it was actually called "Fiesta." The event has since changed its name and now reigns downtown on Cesar Chavez Street.

More than 100 artists from all across the country are featured at the event which is put on by Art Alliance Austin. Organizers say it's a great opportunity to connect the community to local artwork.

"We try to create engaging and educational opportunities to create a community of patrons and support the art that is happening here, because Austin has so much great local art, contemporary art, and we want to make sure that people know that it's here and find ways to engage with it," Art Alliance Executive Director Asa Hursch said.

Art City Austin also offered plenty of activities for the kids as well as live musicians performing throughout the day. Attendees say it's a good chance to pick up new pieces for your collection or just walk around and admire the various art work from all over the country.
