SAN ANTONIO -- Converse Judson is making sure they’re as prepared as possible for the upcoming season, starting with taking the field in the pitch black on the first day they’re allowed to practice.

Ranked the fifth-best Texas 6A high school football team Texas in the AP’s preseason poll, the Rockets hit the field at 6:30 a.m. on Monday. Their spot in the poll is just three spots behind Lake Travis, the team that beat them in the second round of the playoffs last year.

Expect big things from Demarvin Leal, a defensive end committed to Texas A&M, and running back Sincere McCormick.

Plus, there’s a quarterback batter to place Houston’s Julon Williams. Several guys are competing for the job, including two players new to the varsity team: a sophomore and a transfer from Johnson.
