SAN ANTONIO — Heavy rains are expected to make their way to San Antonio.

  • Rain expected to arrive in Central Texas Wednesday
  • Salvation Army received blankets during last week's cold snap
  • Now has a need for children's coats

The cold weather could become an issue for local agencies, like the Salvation Army, working to help people in need as many are still coming down from last week's cold front.

Last week, the Salvation Army was asking for blanket donations when the cold weather hit and the shelter was at capacity.

"The response was great last week,” Brad Mayhar with the Salvation Army said. “We appreciate the support we got from you guys and from the community. People really stepped up. We've got some blankets that are starting to come in. It's no surprise that people in San Antonio are always really generous. They see a need and they always do what they can to help us out."

They've since received more blanket donations, but now they're asking for children's coats and one-size-fits-all ponchos.

"It's possible we could see more traffic here any time we plan for, whether it be rain or cold weather,” Mayhar said. “We prepare for the worst - like what's the worst case scenario. You hope and in most cases you do hope that it doesn't live up to the hype."
