TAYLOR, Texas — A suspect has been arrested after a man was mysteriously dropped off at an area hospital with multiple gunshot wounds on Tuesday.

Taylor police detectives investigating this shooting established probable cause to obtain an arrest warrant for Manuel Herrera, Jr., 43, of Taylor.

At 6:54 p.m. on June 12, officers located Herrera and attempted to stop a vehicle that he was a passenger in the 900 block of E. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. When the vehicle came to a stop, Herrera ran from the vehicle and officers pursued him on foot.

After a foot chase, officers apprehended Herrera in Robinson Park, 206 S. Dolan St. A search incident to arrest revealed Herrera to have 45-caliber bullets in his pocket as well as suspected methamphetamine. In addition, in a search of the vehicle that suspect Herrera was a passenger in and ran from, officers recovered a 45-caliber semi-automatic pistol.

Herrera was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, evading arrest/detention on foot, possession of controlled substance under 1 gram and felon in possession of a firearm.

He was transported to and booked into the Williamson County Jail, where he is currently being held.
