SAN MARCOS, Texas -- The San Marcos Police Department on Tuesday issued a warning about a phone scammer posing as a police officer and demanding money in order to clear a fake warrant.

Multiple residents have reported that they have received calls from the number 512-566-7496. The calls were placed Tuesday morning.

Police said the caller identified himself as “Officer Robert Duggin, badge #486.” He’s telling people that a warrant has been issued for their arrest for failure to appear for a jury summons.

San Marcos police will never call someone to seek payment over the phone. Residents are advised to never give credit card, debit or gift card information out over the phone to an unfamiliar person.

If you suspect you are dealing with a scammer, hang up. If you believe you gave money to a scammer, call the San Marcos Police Department at 512-753-2108.
