AUSTIN, Texas — An argument in a South Austin parking lot early Saturday resulted in one man being shot and killed. The suspect was arrested later that day.

Antoine Kirkwood, 35, faces a first-degree murder charge with bond set at $100,000.

Around 2:21 a.m., police received a call regarding a fight in the parking lot of Bender Bar and Grill at 321 Ben White Blvd. in which a man had been shot and another man, later identified as Kirkwood, fled the scene.

When officers arrived, they located Glenn Howell with obvious trauma to his body. Austin/Travis County EMS also arrived and attempted resuscitation efforts. Howell succumbed to his wounds and was pronounced deceased at 2:32 a.m.

Homicide detectives responded to the scene and spoke with witnesses who provided details about the shooting.  Preliminary accounts indicated that this was an isolated incident between a small group of individuals.

According to Austin Police Department, through investigation, they determined that during the argument, Kirkwood produced a handgun that he unintentionally dropped on the ground. The pistol magazine came out of the pistol at that time. Kirkwood separated himself from Howell and went to his vehicle.  Instead of leaving, Kirkwood retrieved a second pistol magazine, inserted it into the pistol and racked a round into the chamber. He returned to where Howell was and the two men again began to scuffle. Kirkwood then shot Howell. The shooting was captured on camera.

An autopsy determined the cause of death to be from a gunshot wound to the head.

Later that same day, homicide detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Kirkwood for the murder of Howell. He was located and arrested in Georgetown, Texas.
