CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A suspect is in custody following a SWAT situation in southeast Charlotte.

A SWAT team member told Spectrum News that the suspect was taken into custody without incident.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say they were attempting to serve 30-year-old Todd O-Brien Houston with 32 arrest warrants just after 9 a.m. Friday. They say he drove away in a stolen vehicle before officers could apprehend him. He pulled into the Mcalpine Ridge Apartment Homes on Krefeld Glen Drive where officials say he barricaded himself.

Witnesses say they saw the man drive up in a silver car.

"He was in a hurry, because his car, he literally threw it in park, hopped out and he was gone. He already knew where he was going. Ee was swift with it," witness Brandon Tann said.

Officers say they found Houston, who is a convicted felon, in a stairway with a handgun. He later surrendered and was taken into custody without incident.

Police blocked off the road and were telling residents to avoid the area.
