TAMPA, Fla. — A life saving mission in the Bay Area is helping people who are struggling with drug addiction.

  • Life saving cards helping drug addicts
  • Cards list treatment centers in Hillsborough

Through the 'Your Life Matters' project, addicts are given small cards with a list of ten treatment centers in Hillsborough County.  First responders will give the card to a person when they wake up from an overdose.

"I remember coming to after all of that and being like, I need help. And I never had a card or no one ever game me a list. Not that it's anyone's fault but just that I could have used one of these cards in that moment," Joelle King with Lighthouse Faith Ministries said.

Former addict Karen McGinnis led the effort to get the cards in Tampa after hearing about a similar program in Manatee County.

The centers listed on the cards say they are ready to take people in.

"We say keep trying. Just pick up the phone, talk to somebody, get on the computer, chat with somebody. Email with someone," Susan Morgan with Gracepoint said.

And hopefully, those little cards will give people a healthier and brighter future.

"There's 18 women under my care right now, and I teach and council and encourage and organize and administrate and to think that I could be doing that successfully for four years now is just incredible," King added.
