NORTH CAROLINA -- World War II reenactments are attracting the whole family this Labor Day weekend.

  • Showing off the training Fort Fisher's use during the war
  • From kids activities, like a toy soldier workshop, to weapon demonstrations, event organizers say there's something there for the whole family
  • The program continues, today from noon to four

The two-day event started Saturday at Fort Fisher, showing off the training base's use during the war.

Volunteers said the fort was used to teach soldiers how to identify planes and shoot enemies out of the sky.

From kids activities, like a toy soldier workshop, to weapon demonstrations, event organizers say there's something there for the whole family.

"It lets the public see, first hand, what history is all about," said Becky Sawyer, the WWII Program Events Coordinator. "To see the weapons, to see the uniforms, to talk to the reenactors to learn more about the history."

The program continues, today from noon to four. The even is free for spectators but some tours and activities require a small donation.
