CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Thousands of people filled Uptown Charlotte this weekend to celebrate Charlotte Pride 2018.

  • The annual two-day festival celebrates the LGBTQ community in the Queen City
  • Protesters were also in attendance
  • The parade has become the largest parade in the city

The annual two-day festival celebrates the LGBTQ community in the Queen City. People enjoyed music, performances, and a parade on Sunday afternoon.

While there were some protesters out early Sunday morning, festival attendees said this weekend was full of love and acceptance for the community.

"I've been to Raleigh Pride a bunch of times, but the atmosphere here is so much more uplifting, so much more fun, and it's just a big group of united people, and it's a lot of fun," said Tristin Hamel.

"[There's] nothing but love, nothing but hugs, nothing but happiness, all the children are out, and all the interactions have just been absolutely positive," said Brittany Woodie.

This was the 17th year for the festival, and the parade has become the largest parade in the city of Charlotte.
