JACKSONVILLE, N.C. -- Residents in the new Stateside subdivision in Jacksonville are concerned about flooding.

Anytime there's heavy rain, they say the road floods onto their property, and even the backyard easement overflows.

According to A. Sydes Construction Inc., the subdivision's developer, the approved storm drainage system was designed to meet DOT and state storm water requirements but recent rainfall was greater than those requirements would usually anticipate.

Residents say they're now considering flood insurance as a precaution.

"If we need to go ahead and purchase flood insurance, that's going to be quite costly, that also would have affected where we purchases, and we probably would not have purchased in this neighborhood had we known at the time that it was so prone to flooding," said resident Carmen Puckett.

The developer says their engineers are in contact with NCDOT and hope to get permission to add additional storm water measures to help remedy the problem in the event of another storm.
