DURHAM, N.C. -- Tuesday marks one year since protesters in Durham toppled a Confederate statue in front of the Old Courthouse.

  • Confederate statue was pulled down by protesters on Aug. 14, 2017.
  • Committee will come up with ideas on what to do with that statue and others like it.
  • Decision is expected by year's end.

Several people were charged at the time.

Since then, prosecutors dismissed cases against two people, found another not guilty and dropped all charges against five others.

Since the unrest, a committee was formed by the city council and board of county commissioners to come up with solutions on what to do with not only that statue but others like it throughout Durham County.

They are expected to make a recommendation by the end of the year.
