CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- We continue to settle into a drier weather pattern Tuesday as dry air continues to move in from the northwest. Storm chances remain minimal through midweek before ramping up yet again by late in the week and over the weekend.

  • A drier pattern continues to settle in.
  • Storm chances will ramp up again late in the week.
  • A cold front will approach from the west.

With an upper-level system tracking eastward to the north of us, we continue to experience a drying, west-northwesterly flow Tuesday, allowing for another mainly storm-free day across the Piedmont. Most should enjoy lots of sunshine with just a small chance for a spot shower or storm across the mountains and areas east of I-77. Temperatures will be hot this afternoon, with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s, but humidity shouldn't be quite as high as what we experienced over the weekend.

This same weather pattern persists into Wednesday before changes arrive Thursday. A cold front approaching from the west will allow storm chances to ramp up each day by late in the work week and into the weekend, where we'll make the return to a typical, unsettled August-like weather pattern featuring daily chances for afternoon storms and muggy conditions.
