NATIONWIDE — The Memorial Day weekend is almost upon us, and if you're looking to stay indoors for the weekend, we have a few ideas for families, especially military members and their families.

Over 2,000 museums nationwide are offering free admission to military personnel and their families throughout the summer. These museums are called "Blue Star Museums" and they include more than 20 museums in the Austin and San Antonio area.

The program was started in a partnership among museums nationwide, the National Endowment of the Arts, Blue Star Families and the Department of Defense. It extends from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day. All military personnel and their families need to do to be granted free admission is to present a military ID.

The Bullock Texas State History Museum explained to reporter Victoria Maranan why the institution decided to be a part of the program.
