NEW YORK - The teacher's union has ratified the new contract it reached with City Hall last month.

It passed with the support of 87 percent of members of the United Federation of Teachers.

Under the deal, all teachers will get a two percent raise in the first year, 2.5 percent in the second year and three percent in year three.

Some teachers will be paid up to $8,000 extra to work in schools that are hard to staff.

The new contract will cost the city an additional $2.5 billion over the next three years.

But the de Blasio administration says it expects health care savings to offset most of that cost.
