ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — Kelvin Benjamin’s crash course on the Bills offense continues as he works toward making his debut Sunday against the Saints.

After spending the weekend working on the playbook, he’s now had two full practices to put it on the field. And quarterback Tyrod Taylor has spent extra time trying develop a rapport with his newest weapon.

"He's a talented receiver, a big target for sure," Taylor said. "As he continues to keep learning the playbook and the things that we're doing here, we have to find ways to give him opportunities to make plays. That's my job. That's [offensive coordinator Rick Dennison's] job. As an offense, we just have to welcome him in allow him to go out there and play free."

"It's big time because we don't really know each like that, as far as a football standpoint," Benjamin said of Taylor. "Just keep getting timing, and it's just repetitions. The more repetitions, the better."

Benjamin’s six-foot five-inch frame stands out among the Bills receivers, and makes him a tough matchup for smaller defenders. That’s something Taylor knows he can use to his advantage.

"If you look at the plays he's made over his career, he's definitely made a bunch of contested [catches]," Taylor said. "Just got to give him a chance and those opportunities where it's him one-on-one with the defensive back more times than likely he's going to have the size advantage. We've talked and tried to get on the same page and it's going to take reps, but just give him a chance. His ball or nobody's ball."

Benjamin is confident the two will form a connection on the field, and confident in his ability to go get the football, even when he's covered.

"I still don't want to just say throw it up," Benjamin said. "I just tell him ‘just throw it off leverage. However you feel, just throw it and I got you.’"

Taylor says the move by the front office to make the mid-season trade for Benjamin confirms what the Bills—despite outside perception—believed all along: they could be successful this season.

“Just adding another playmaker to this team definitely shows that they’re serious about winning,” said Taylor.
