In the Fayetteville Towne Center Atrium, "The Community Quilters Market" is helping people impacted by the most recent hurricane season in North Carolina and Tennessee.

The idea came to Janet Lutz, who owns Calico Gals, when she was driving to work.

"I was listening to the radio, and I heard that Keith Urban was doing a concert and raising funds for these people," Lutz said.

She was inspired and felt she could do something locally to help.

Lutz said what she saw on the news from Tennessee and North Carolina encouraged her to jump into action.

"They have nothing," she said. "We complain about the little things in life, but they have lost everything. That's why it's so important."

She reached out to Amy McNamara, who owns Pick Your Stitch, and the idea came to life. The quilters would team up to raise money. And they weren't the only ones wanting to help.

"We started getting donations from all of our customers, so all of these are donated," McNamara said.

The market is open Saturday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. All proceeds will be donated to World Central Kitchen to help hurricane victims.
