All Amtrak service between Amsterdam and Utica was delayed Friday afternoon due to an accident involving a train and a tractor-trailer on Spring Street in the Village of Palatine Bridge, according to Amtrak and the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office.

The collision occured around 11:17 a.m. Friday, resulting in one minor injury to a person on the train, which was traveling west with 133 passengers and crew members, county Sheriff Jeffery Smith said. While the truck sustained significant damage, the driver was not hurt, he said.

There was no hazardous materials released and the train did not derail, but authorities asked the public to avoid the area while crews worked at the scene. The train's passengers were transferred to another train. The damaged engine was being towed by another train, the sheriff said.

A lengthy delay was expected, Amtrak said.

Along with the sheriff's office, the Canajoharie Fire Department, Lake Valley EMS, Montgomery County EMS, CSX, Amtrak, NYS Canal Authority and Roosevelt's Towing responded to the incident.
