Sexual assault remains a serious problem in the military. So much so, that a recent study commissioned by the Department of Defense found that Fort Drum ranked number one among army installations for female sexual assault risk and number two for men.

Since these results recently came forward army officials say they've been working to fix the issue.  The Army is taking a number of steps to fix the issue.

One is the SHARP program, or Sexual Harassment Assault Response & Prevention. Their goal is to promote, eliminate and prevent sexual assault on Fort Drum.

The program was introduced back in 2009. Throughout the year, the hosts several initiatives like the survivor quilt program, T-shirt tribute and self-defense classes.

"The historical context of sexual assaults in the military has been huge,” said SHARP MEDDAC Victim Advocate Damon McKenzie. “So having a program here to be available for soldiers across installations is vital."

SHARP has a few upcoming programs in 2019, including the stomp challenge for Sexual Assault Awareness month in April.
