NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. -- Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi is asking United States trade negotiators to demand China to stop exporting Fentanyl.

Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol joining Brindisi outside the New Hartford Post Office on Friday to talk about the deadly drug.

Brindisi said China is a key source of the drug, and despite security measures, traffickers are sometimes able to have it shipped here.

"If we know where it's coming from, and we have the ability to stop it through his thoughts here today, then it's a no-brainer as far as I'm concerned. We should be doing that," said Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol.

Brindisi sent a letter to negotiators urging them to tell China to stop the export of Fentanyl and other synthetic opioids at the upcoming G-20 Summit.

Brindisi is challenging Congresswoman Claudia Tenney in this year's election.
