UTICA, N.Y. -- October 11th is National Coming Out Day, and Mohawk Valley Community College participated to make sure students feel accepted.

The College's LGBTQ Committee sponsored a celebration.

Workers with ACR Health and Planned Parenthood came out to talk to students.

Many felt there's more acceptance now than years ago, but they'd like to see more people outside the LGBTQ community show up at events like this.

"More people need to come out as allies, but in order for you to be an ally, you need to come out to learn the knowledge to have a full understanding of what and who they are," said student Mecca Mitchell-Ervin.

It was the 30th Anniversary of National Coming Out Day.
