The Watertown Fire department is remembering one of its own on 9/11.

David Lauchenauer died this year of cancer, which has been linked to his time serving in the wake of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

Flags at the department flew at half-staff, and a memorial wreath was placed in remembrance.

"He never had any regrets about the assignments that he drew with regards to it. He just looked at it he was doing his job just like his father who worked here a lot of years," said Watertown Fire Chief Dale Herman.

Cancer is the leading cause of line-of-duty deaths for firefighters, according to the International Association of Firefighters.
