ROCHESTER N.Y. -- Elephant's best friend? An unexpected friendship between the Seneca Park Zoo's four elephants and a puppy named Zuzu is budding at Seneca Park Zoo.

Zuzu, a five-month-old female hound-mix, was adopted from Lollypop Farm as part of the elephant program, according to elephant manager Lindsay Brinda.

“I wanted a dog that could be handled by anybody, who loves people and also who’s comfortable around large mammals,” said Brinda. “The elephants all seem pretty comfortable. They’ll do everything with Zuzu around and Zuzu’s pretty calm.”

Zuzu will serve as a companion to Genny C, Lilac, Moki and Chana, and much like pets can do with human senior citizens, enrich their lives and will provide stimulation.
