The man accused of killing two people and shooting a third last month in Waterloo was in Seneca County Court this afternoon.

Emerson Tohafijian returned to court with a public defender and pleaded not guilty to 19 felony charges.

The Seneca County District Attorney asked for $1 million cash bail but Judge Rick Healy denied the request, calling Tohafijian a flight risk.

Tohafajian stands accused of shooting and killing his 53-year-old former girlfriend Lori McConnell of Waterloo and Charlie Andrus of Seneca Falls on July 10.

The deadly attacks happened at the Waterloo apartment of Karen Zdunko, who police say was also shot by Tohafijian but survived.  She appeared at the hearing but had no comment.

More than 20 family members and friends of the victims attended the hearing.

Tohafjian returned to Seneca County jail and will return to court September 17.
