A teen is dead following a one-car crash in Oneida County early Saturday morning.

State police were called to Mason Road in the town of Sangerfield around 1:30 a.m. after a resident in the area called 9-1-1 for reports of someone calling for help.

When officers arrived on scene they found a 1997 Ford pickup truck had crashed into a tree off the east side of the roadway.

Police found the passenger 18-year-old Michael Woods trapped waving his arm out the window, yelling for help.

Woods was eventually removed from the vehicle and taken to the hospital by helicopter with leg injuries.

The driver, 16-year-old Jonathan Beach of Waterville, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
