While overall crime appears to be going down, certain precincts saw a rise in homicides in the first half of 2018, according to data the NYPD released Tuesday.

The city had 853 fewer crime reports compared to the same period in 2017. Reported robberies, burglaries, grand larcenies, and shootings also decreased.

But there was an 8 percent increase in homicides, with 147 reported in the first half of the year, compared to 136 at the same point last year.

Two precincts in the Bronx have seen the biggest jump.

"That's the 40 [Precinct] and the 48 [Precinct], so we're putting additional resources into both precincts. So it is localized," Police Commissioner James O'Neill said. "It's not any comfort to the murder victims and their families, but it is localized to two precincts."

Police also noted a 33 percent increase in reported rapes.

Officials attribute the increase to more victims coming forward, as opposed to an actual increase.
