WATERTOWN, N.Y. — A Watertown police officer has been recognized for saving an infant's life.

Baby Luke was being put into a car seat when he suddenly stopped breathing.

Officer William Rafferty was first on scene and immediately jumped in to perform CPR.

Once the ambulance arrived, he stayed with the baby on the trip to the hospital.

On Monday, Officer Rafferty was awarded the New York State Senate Liberty Award.

"Overwhelming and a scary situation, that day. It's something I'll never forget. I was in the right place at the right time. I was able to help Luke and I'm just so happy for him and the family,” said Rafferty.

Officer Rafferty was also honored earlier this month by the American Heart Association.
