More boots are on the ground in Syracuse to help the homeless with everything from addiction recovery to mental health and employment.

The Rescue Mission and Syracuse Behavioral Healthcare are adding recovery specialists on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Ultimately, they want to help people settle down in permanent housing.

"Really what we're looking for is to connect people so when they leave the shelter they have people and supports in place for themselves so they can connect better, do better and hopefully stay out of shelter,” said Rescue Mission Chief Programs Officer Amber Vander Ploeg.

There were more than 90,000 overnight stays last year at the Rescue Mission.
